Sufficient a.k.a. Fredo Fredo is a fifteen year old American Thoroughbred gelding who was bred for the race track. For whatever reason, he failed to win any races and was sold by his original owner. Nothing else is known about him until he was purchased off a meat truck in Midland, Texas last year. He was discovered in dire straights by a woman who is involved with Arabian Horse Rescue. Apparently, she checks the trucks for unfortunate horses and saves them from certain death at the hands of a butcher in a meat packing plant. When she discovered Sufficient on the truck, she phoned his current owner and suggested that she take a look at him. Luck was with the leggy pure bred and he was taken to a warm barn and rehabilitation. In June of this year he was deemed healthy enough for dressage and jump training and began competing. I met the now healthy and fit Fredo as he was competing at the Lone Star Stable Schooling Horse Trials and Dressage Show August 20. Ridden by a brilliant young horsewoman, he showed beautifully and won his events. This intelligent, graceful performer has many healthy years ahead of him thanks to the insight and loving hearts of three very special women.
